Re Northcote Valuations.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,-^I was indeed surprised to read the account of lest Saturday's meeting in the Gladstone Hall, Korthcote, which account I coneidor very erroneous and micleadinj;. inasmuch as it reports me to have said that the valuations were excessive. Now, what 1 did Bay was that I was perfectly satisfied with Mr Soaman'a valuation of my property, and that whoever complained now did so without a cause, seeing that they were consenting parties to their valuation (with one exception); and further, when the vote of censure on Mr Seaman was proposed, it was co strongly opposed by Mr Johnston and myself that it collapsed completely, the general feeling being that a more competent valuator could not bo found in the district. The strong feeling shown at the meeting was not against Mr Seaman, but against' the abominable system of taxing improvements made on the land.—l am, &c, Francis Stafford, Sunny Corner, Birkenhead.
