Dumb Bell Exercise.

(To tho Editor,)

Sik,—Permit me to answer a letter written by "Lex" respecting Piofesor Cai-rollo's Carnival. " Lox "is very much uppot at a very line looking young fellow lifting a dumbbell to tho weight of l'JSlbs. LSeing ono of the audience, I am pleased to cay 1 never saw such an athlutic exhibition, having witnessed many in England, but this convinces mo to bo the best of its class of entertainment. " I.cx "is not satisfied by making himself miscrablo over it, but hopes somo ablor penman will mako a few remarks to denounce such an abueo of nature, as " Lex " terms it. Having known l'rofesaor Carrollo for some time, I I am pleased I cannot coincide with "Lex's1 remarks, as the Profeesor is too careful of his pupils.attempting any feats but which are easy for them to accomplish, and especially before an audience. ''Lex " admits that tho lifter is a fino young fellow, and what has made him such but his attention to tho classes, and the Professor's careful training ? I must cuafesa that for a young man to work himself up to have such strength is a great credit to himsolf and his teacher. Fancy poor " Lex " to ha% To to ondure eeoing a strong man rescue lifo from fire or a watery grave ! What pain for him, I am suro ! " Lex" must have felt hia ignorance when Mr Buchanan receive d such applause from the audience for his lifting power. "Lex" is no doubt one of those old women who o<ight to keep away from manly sport and play kiss-in-the-ring.—Yours, 3tc, Common Sen.se.
