BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The usual meoting of tho above Board was held yostorday afternoon in the Victoria Arcade. Presont:—Messrs Upton (Chairman), J. C. Carr, D. Goldio, J. M. Lennox, J. Udy, and Moat. Chairman's Report.—This report was read. It dealt with various minor matters. The only item of importance was a grant of £10 to the Library .Fund of the Onohunga school,
Kauaeranga BoYs'SciiooT..-ThefoUowing tenders were received for tho orection 01 partitions in the above school:—James Ooombes, £31 10a; \V. G. Gairett, £35; W. Smith, £36 ; Kiordan, £48 18a ; Trenton, £37 10a. The lowest tender was accepted. Auckland Training Collkgb — The visiting committee of the abovo school re ported on various minor matters, none of which was of much importance. Thereport was adopted, Temperance Lbs sos Bookk. —A letter was read from Mr McDermott, on behalf of tho various temperance organisations of the city, suggesting that the book entitled " First fa'teps to Temperance " be appointed as lesson book in'the various public schools ; also forwarding samples of tho book, with an intimation that a deputation, if permitted, would wait upon tho Board.—On the motion of Mr David Goldie, it was docided that no action be taken until tho Board had received the deputation. Alexandra Sciiool.-£3 w;is voted towards tho re-erection of tho fonce surrounding this school, which had been blown down during the recent heavy gales. Auckland City.—The report of tho Committee appointed to consider tho question of school finances was referred back.
DAUfIAVIIXE.— £9 103 was granted towards effecting necossary improvements to tho play ground of tho above school. Hikcranoi. — R-esolved that the question of the granting of extension of timo to the contractor for tho abovo school be left in tho hands of the Local Committee.
Kati Kati Nor.Tir.-Resolved that the Board offer to pay ono half cost of painting the abovo school-house.
Waikomiti.— The report of Mr Goodwin IV! tho erection of a school at New Lynn being unfavourable, was rofcrrtd to tho applicant, Mr McCaul. Point Chevalier.—lt was resolved that the Government bo communicated with re the section of land required for the abovo school.
Wanoakatta.—Tho application for a new schoo1 waa referred to Mr Fidler to report upon. Rotorua —It was resolved that the above school be opened on the let October. Tenders.—The various tenders for school supplies wero referred to Mr Allright to report at next meeting.
