At YVanganui, Mr Matthew Buraelt, the temperance lecturer, hae induced übout 120 Maoris, including 14 chiefs, to tako tho pledge.
In the year ISO 9 Ken Zealand spent £2,541,507 on bUook drink, or £10 103 per head of the population. In 1885, the expenditure on intoxicunta was £2,259,514, or ouly £3 16e per head.
