Prospecting in the Borough. Thames, this day.—At a meeting-of the Borough Council last night, ..a communication was received ftom the Acting.Under. Secretary, stating that on the application of Col. Fraser, M.H.R., a subsidy of £100 had been authorised towards aiding prospecting within the borough, in termß of the regula. tions for that purpose. An application was received from Meaers S. Turtle, Simpson, and Stephenson, for aid in prospecting the hill between the Moanataiari and|Kuramilftt the 350 feet level, by means of a crosscut. The consideration of the application was deferred for a fortnight. i Mr Henry Simmonds was appointed Fore.man of Works for the Borough Council las' night, at a salary of £3 per week, by six votes to five, received by Mr McDermott. Nineteen applications were received for the position. Mr Fraaer, M.H.R., contemplates visiting Melbourne at an early date. He will probably be absent about five weeks, ; IVARANOAnAKE, this day.
