A SUSPICIOUS FIRE.
Isvkrcaegill, FiHay, ffSB A man named Benjamin Bowen, employed I as a baker by Mr R. Foster, license of '"■' Thornburn Junction Hotel has been ffi arrested on tho charge breaking into " , Foster's store and stealing money and valuables to the amount of £17, and also with attempting to burn the ' building down. The alarm was given by the accused, and the tire extinguished.' " When arrested, skeleton keys giving admittance to the store, was found oh him.''I;'', It is alleged that he admitted being in th» store, out denied wilfully setting it on fire, "5!; averring that the piece of candle he ' V had left there must have done the mischief. A portion of the mieeing money was found 31 in a bakehouse. Accused was brought ut> at Riverton and remanded. Bail was ' allowed ; himself in £500, and two sureties1 :' of £250 each; but the money not being forthcoming, accused was lodged in gaol. .
