The landed property in England covers 72.000,000 acres. It is worth £2,000,000,000, and yields an annual rent, independent of mine?, of £66,000,000. One-fourth of this .territory, exclusive of that held by the owners of less than an acre, is in the hands of 1,200 proprietors, and a second fourth iB owned by 6,200 others ; go that half of the entire country i* held by 7.400 individuals. The population U 35,C00,000. The peers, not 600 in number, own more than one-fifth of the kingdom ; they possess 14,000,000 acres of land worth £400,000,000, with an annual rental of £13,200,000.
