Arrival of the Whainpoa
The steamship Whampos, from Foochow, with new season teas, put in an appearance late this afternoon, having made an excellent passage, She brings 500 tons cargo for Auckland, rhe greater part being tea. The Whampoa reunded tho North Head shortly after throo p.m., flying the hoalth officer's flag's ac e!i3 ia from an infected port. She is consigned to Messrs H. B. Morton and Co.
Wo are ploased to bo able to state that Mr H. N. Abbott has concludod arrangements with Mr Wybert Kcave for a dramatic season at tho Opera House. Mr Reeve brings a strdng company, and will open on the 18th of September, in "Only Dust."
Cn Cooper has given notice to move at the next meeting of the City Council, " That a poll of the ratepayers be taken on the question, ' Ia it doßirablo that the operation of the Contagious Diseases Act in the City of Auckland be suspended ?' "
The arbitration caso, Abraham Isaacs r. the Queen, for tho determination of claims brought against the Government in connection with Mr Isaacs's contract for railway construction between Cambridge and Taupo was continued attbo K.M. Court today, Mr H. Seth Smith being the arbitrator. Greenway, a cartor, was cross-exam-ined by Mr Cotter, and Mr Bold (Inspect :>r) was examined by Mr Cooper, and crossexamined by Mr Cotter. A witnoes Darned Spragg also gave evidence and the examination was then further adjourned.
