WALKING MATCH.
TiiK walking match between F. Mor'eehead and S. Goodman for the two-milo championship of Auckland took place in Dilworth'a paddock on Saturday afternoon at the conclusion of tho intercolonial football match. About 300 peoplo remained to eeo it. Mr R. E. kllis acted as starter and judge, and at 5.20 despatched the men on even terms. Gloodrnan at once took the lead and wont on steadily increasing his advantage till the end of the fourth round, when More.-head gave up on ascoUni of the slushy stato of the ground. It was in truth very bad indeed, the turf having been churned up into a regular quagmire. When Moreshead retired not quite a mile had beon traversed, and Goodman was about 100 yards a head. The latter completed tho prescribed distance, and, of coureo, won tho match,, the time (10 minutes) being very good in view of the iieavy condition of tho ground. Moreshead now challenges Goodman to walk any distance from one mile to fifty miles lor £50 α-aido. Another match will probably be the result, as Goodman has plenty of backers. There was vory litt'e betting on Saturday afternoon.
