Control of tho polico is to bo handed over to tho Justice Department. The Government have decided not to carry out the proposal made by Mr J. C. Brown on the laet day of session that they should erect residences for Police Courts on Crown lands, and charge occupants rent. He considered thnt the Now Zealand police were better paid than those of any other colony.
About the end of next month a con forence of ehoop inspectors of the various colonies will be hold at Sydney, to coneifier tho question of uniform regulations for sea-borne ehcep, and generally to discuss matters rotating to interchange between the Australian colonies. Now Zealand will bo represented. It may bo mentioned that the colony is now practically clean, but will not be officially so declared for some tu-o months, and another dip will bo enforced in certain diHtricts in the South Island. A large number of shee; 1 have been killed in order to eradicato tho pest.
