Is l'itt and Vincont-etreet Church last evening tho Rev. C. Worboy* gave a lecture on " A Man's a Man for a' That " to, considering the cold and rain, a very good audience. Ho commenced his remarks by stating that whilo the Welch have •nany bards tho Scotch do no! excel in tho poetic clement, but havo constituted many of the hest philosophers, literary men and scientists. The first part ot the lecture dealt with the erroneous opinion respecting that which contributes tree manhood, in which reference win made to men who havo ri-en to eminence from humble origin The second oart showed that whilo the mental and the physical were important elements in true manhood the moral was the most important, character being manhood's rc_l property and true dignity. The May in which men u:im_niied thtmsolves, and the ctime of degrading human nature came in for string condemnation. Tno lecturer closed with allusions to t.oe progress nnd greaCpo.-sibilities of tho race. The frequent apolause testified to the enj oyn.cn' (>! thuso present. The pleasure of the ovening was greatly enhanced by Ihe musical part of tho programme. Mr Smith ?anu Burno'song, on which the lecture wus h.i-ed. Mrs Willows nnd MissWorboys gave a solo each, and oilier friends sang two quartet t-.s, the accompaniments being played by MrCadnoss.
