Tue usual weekly mooting of tho City Council was bold last evening. Present ; His Worship tbo Mayor, Crs. Phillipps, La Roche, Evans, Cooper, Dovore, Dignan, Atkin, Aiekin, Crowthor, Kidd, Goldie, Waj moutli, Burns, Gurratt, Clarko, and James. New Councillor.—Cr. Davies, the mombor oloctcd Karangahape Ward roproi-ontn-tivo, was introduced, and took bis soat. Correspondence.—Lettors wore received from XV. Eady, ro drainage of Mill-street, off Liverpool-street. The Engineer reported that the cost of tho work would bo £35. Throo honsos could be drained by it: Referred to Streets Committee.—From K. Gordon regarding tho impassable condition of Douglas-stroot, Ponsonby : Roteircd to Stroots Committee,—From J. Hanson, regarding formation of footpath in Vermont slreot: Referred to Streets Committee. — From G. Plummor, respecting v nuisance caused by an old drain in Elizabeth-street. It was broken in two places. Kidd moved un amendment., that the street lamp at the corner of Shortland and Queenstreets bo replaced by a bracket lamp. Committee recommend that Company be advised accordingly.—Ltttor from (1. Holdship, ro cost of repairs to building, Customsstioot East. Committee recommend that action of Building Surveyor bo sustained, and that Mr Holdahip bo informed that no reduction can be mado in the charges.— This was adopted. Works, in Nai'H!R-st___t.—Tenders for drainage from Napier stroet gully wero opened as follows :—Castor and Ferguson, £1,478 9s ; J. and P. Regan, £1,590 19s 8d ; J Hoar, £2,330 ;J. Goldio moved, and Cr. Evans seconded, that tho tender of Sheldon and Hew in bo accepted tho lowest tender being ignored in consoquonco of an unfavourable roport by tho Engineer. Goldio seconded.—-Carried. Domain' Improvement. — Cr. Aiekin moved "That it beau instruction to the Parks Committee to recommend a portion of the design adopted for tho improvement of tho Domain for immediate execution in proportion to amount of funds to credit of Domain Board." In moving tho resolution, Cr. Aiekin said there was übout £800 to the credit of tho Domuin Board, and tho resolution meant that as soon as tho weather improved too works should bo procoodod with.—Carried.
