E. T. Brassey, bankrupt, made tho following statement to the Official Assignee to-day :-I havo been in service as a bank clerk for the past four years ; during the last three years my salary was 70s per week. I left my employment about a month ago. I resigned on account of pressure of my creditors. For the two years prior to my entering the bank I had only casual employment, and being unable to earn sufficient for the maintenance of my family, I got into arrears with tradesmen and others for necessaries. Aftor getting permanent employment I paid off my old debts with borrowed money. The principal part of my present liability consists of this borrowed money, my salary being not more tban sufficient to maintain my family. My unsecured liabilities amount to £202. The only assets I have are my household furniture and effects, which lostimatoto be worth £100, over which thoro is a bill of e ale for £75 registered at Napier. I left Napier a fortnight ago, and brought my furniture to Auckland. A week after the holder Of the bill of sale seized my furniture, and it is now in Cochrane's Auction Rooms for sale. To tho best or my belief I have disclosed all that relatos to my present position. An interesting lecturo on " Christopher Columbus " was delivored by Rev. H. M. Livens at the Devonport Congregational Church last evening. The lecture was illustrated by an explanatory chart.
