Tho steamer reached tho wharf shortly before noon, but owing to tho strong south westerly wind taking the vessolVhcad, tho lino parted, and it was nearly an hour bofore tho vessel was berthed. A largo crowd of persons awaited the steamer's arrival, and the visitura were aroeted with hearty cheer?, which they acknowledged vory enthusiastically. J-ho New South Wales men woro also welcomed by Mr X, L. Skocn, secretary, and other representatives of tho Auckland Rugby Union Association, and were driven to tho Imperial Hotel, whore they intend to reside during their stay here, Tho passage acroaa was a very good ono, and tho visitors arrive in good form. Their averngo weight is about list 71b, and they are a very likely-looking lot of men.. Mr J. A. K. Shaw is captain, Mr G. J. Caird Vice-captain, Mr S. N. McArthur manager and Messrs Shaw, l'barson, and Warren, management and selection committee. A meotintr of the Wellington Kugby Union was held tonight, at which the Auckland unpleasantness was considered. The following resolutions were paeeed: — (1) That the Union exceedingly regrets that tbe alleged grievances of tho Wellington representatives should have found oxpres&ion in the public press, but considers that tho chargos made against the fairnesa of the Auckland urnpiro are of so grave a nature as to demand btrict investigation ; (2) Th-t a committee of inquiry, to consist of three members.be eolected, to bo a management committee and tako evidence and report to the Union; (3) That the Union condemn tho hanging of the Auckland umpire in effigy, and call upon the Poneke Club for an explanation.
