Wellington, t'nis day, A deputation of Auckland members have jutfc interviewed tho Premier re grant in aid Of now building for tho Auckland Girls Hig School. Thero wero present: — Mci era Dargaville, Mitchelson, Moss, Peai ock, Hobbs, Thompson, and Moat. The Pro nier promised to bring the matter befoie 6ha Cabinet, and recommend an advance of £5,000 to bo mado against the security of lato endowment and on general revenue. Tho interview-was most satisfactory. In the courso of the proceeding, Mr Peacock explained that the lease of tho building at present occupied expired in December, and that it wa3 necessary for the Board to mako provision for another building. Although an endowment had been got for the school, this was not a suitable time to deal with it; beside?, prices for buildings at present were low. If the Government could make an advance by way of loan upon tho security of the endowment at a low rate of interest the Board might be able to proceed with the building at Howe-Btreet. The The estimated amount required would bo for a wooden building £3,500, or £5,000 for a brick building. Several members of tho deputation deprecated building in wood in whicli the Premier concurred
The Premier stated that tho amount required for buildings of various characters throughout the colony was very large, and more than the colony could well afford. Ho looked favourably on the proposition to get a loan, and promised to bring tho matter beforo the Cabinet.
