OBITUARY.
Mk J. B. McIKTYKE, whoso funeral took placo from Manukau Road, Parnell, on Bth inst,, was an old colonist, having arrived in tho colony 46 years ago. The cause of death was paralysis, with which he was suddouly seined a weok ago. He leavos uwidow and twelve childron.
A settler in the Avondale district died vory suddenly on May 26. His name is Joseph Arnold, agod 45 years. Tho deceased was a married man, and leaves a wife and one son to mourn thoir loss. Arnold resided at Waterview, about half-a-mile beyond Avondale Asylum.
The death of Mrs Davidson, widow of Mr Alex. Davidson, engineer, Glasgow, and mother-in law of Mr George Fraser, of the Phccnix Foundry, Auckland, and Mr Alex. Brodie,Chairman of Thames County Council, removes from our midst another worthy eett.ler of the early days. . Her death is mourned by a large circle of relatives and friends.
On May 31 the funeral of Mr John Russell Larkins took place at St. Mark's Cemetory, Remuera —the sad ceremony closing tho life record of a most promising you tig man. Tho deceased was tho only son of Mr F. L. Larkins, of tbo firm of McArthur and Co , and will be remoinborcd as a de'tinguishod scholar both horo and in England. About two years ago he left Auckland for England, but aftor winning somo scholarship, there his health gave way, and iustead of going up for his degree at Oxford, as bad been intended, he made a tour of Switzerland and Italy. His ailment, which pro\*ed to be that insidious djsoase, con-umption, was not checked bj* these meit-ures, and he accordingly returned to Auckland by tho direct steamer Kaikoura, ■which arri'i-l Iter"! last week.
