The monthly meeting of St. Stephen's Presbyterian Band of Hope was held last night. The President (Mr John Buchanan) occupied the chair, and gave an address showing tho evils of moderate drinking - how in many cases it leads to drunkenness. He compared tho "wee drop "people to Tarawera, apparently tranquil, but within destructive forces ate generating, and all of a sudden they burst out, doing an immense amount of harm. Mr Rimmer, a gentlemen not long out from the Old Country, made a good speech, in which ho told tho boys they were to be the strength of the lemperance party in the future? and they must understand the cuu.-e thoroughly mi order to do battle for it. Ue related a number of appropriate stories*. Miss Porter and Master Walter Barry recited in the usual masterly way of all Mr R. S. Barry's pupils. '
