The sight here grand and sublime beyond description. Tikitapu bush is destroyed. Mcßae's hostelry at Wairoa was crushed to the ground by the falling debris, but all the inmates escaped. One tourist, a Mr. Bainbridge, is missing. Mr Edwin Bainbridge is a young Englishman, and arrived but recently in the colony, for the purpose of making a tour. He hails from Newcastle-on-Tyno, and his intention, after doing the wonders of the Lake District, was to proceed to China where he has an uncle, carrying on business as a merchant. Mr Bainbridge, when at Wairoa on Tuesday last, informed a friend, that he intended to remain a week at Wairoa.

Arika and Noturoa, two native villages on Lake Tarawera, completely deatroyed. The

loss of life in the Native settlements about the lake i: estimated at 35. It is supposed that an obstruction exists on the Bush Road as persons who loft Tauranga for Rotorua yesterday had not reported their arrival at 10 o'clock. The reports about the destruction of terraces are, of course, mere deductions from Che disturbance about Rotomahana. Some fears are entertained here for the safety of To Toko, where there is a constabulary station 4
