ORGAN RECITAL.
inn organ recital given in St. Matthew's Churoh last night by the organist (Mr Mevillo G. Barnett) was largely attended, tho building being quite full. With groat success the following progratnmo vms gone through:—l, Overturo in E (organ), Giovanni Morandi; 2, aria, "On Mignty Fens " (tho " Creation "), Mrß Morrin ; 3, Andante in B flat, organ. Mozart; 4, aria, "Love Not the VYorld " (" Prodigal Son "), Sullivan, Mrs Tebbs ;5, Melody in F minor and Offettoire in A flat, organ, Batiste; 6, aria, "Arm, Arm, Ye Brave " (Judas Maccabseus), Mr Knox ; 7,. Andante with variations (from the Notturno, Op. 34), organ, Spohr; 8, aria, "With Verdure Clad" ("The Creation"), Miss Hulctead; 9, ofi'ertoiro (vivace and rornanza), organ, Neville Barnett; 10. aria, "Bo Thou Faithful Unto Death" ("St. Paul"), Mr Edwards; fantasia (allegro, adagio, and vivace), Humphrey Stark. The Old Hundredth, sung by choir and congregation, and the Benediction, pronounced by the incumbent (Rev. W, Tebbe), brought the proceedings to a close. Tho collection waa to havo been in aid of the Choir Music Fund, but just" before it was taken up the incumbent announced that in view of the dreadful catastrophe at Kotorua, whereby so many people had been bereaved of relatives and friends, and whereby scores, perhaps hundred?, would be plunged into suffering and misery, tho officials of the church, after consulting with the organiat, had determined to devote tho entire offering to the relief of tho sufferers at Rotorua. Ho therefore urged all to do their utmost. As are suit the offertory amounted to the generous sum of £12 3s.
