Anderson, mate of the schooner Waitemata, has successfully passed the examination qualifylßg him for loa position of master. The New Zealand Shipping Company have received a cable messageas follows :—"Jiimutaka arrived Rio 26th; all well. Meat in good oondition." : The s.s. Wellington arrived from Tauranpfa early this morning. Passengers :—Mesdames Pitt and Smith, Messrs Hetley, Turler. Major Pitt, Weston, Martin. The suggestion made at the annual meeting of the Northern B. S, Company, that one of the larger steamers should he laid up, and a smaller vessel brouglitinto service, owing to the dulness of trade, has been adopted. Accordingly, the s.s. Wellington has been laid up, and her place in the Tauranga and northern trade will, on Monday next, be taken over by the s.s. Glenelg, in charge of Captain Stephenson. The s.s. Taupo (Captain McColl) arrived alongside the wharf at 4.30 a.m. to-day. She left Port Chalmers at midnight on 17th inst., called at Oainaru, Tiniaru, Lyttelton, Napier, Qishorne, and Tauranga. Sailed from Tnuransra midday yesterday. Fine weather was experienced all the way up coast. The following passengers have booked for Sydney per R.M.S. Alameda:—Mcsdameß Hancock. Pierce and child, Messrs Bold en, Howard, Hastonston, J. M. Jacobs, F. C. Kerry, Phillips, W. Barnes, Ewkwood, Caldicott, I)r. Pierce, Mr, Mrs, and Miss Leader, Miss Brett, Lieutenant MBilen, Mr and Mrs Pagot, and 15 in the steeiugc. | The s.s. Clansman arrived from KusselJ and Northern porta|early this morning. Passengers : —Mesdames Dury, S»fl"e, Hunter, Farrell and child, Miss Cochrane. Messrs R. J. O'Snllivan, Allwright, Porter, Busby, Tomia, Shepherd, Wigmore, Scott, Bassett, Jenkinson, Cochrane, Wright, Atkinsoa, Federli, Soffe, Fain, Honderson. Firth and son, Rev. Archdeacou Willis, and eight in the steerage. The Clansman left again for Whangarei at 10 a.m. ♦
