POLICE COURT.—This Day.

Drunkenness.—One woman was fined for this offence.
No Evidence.—William Simpson, alias Hawker, waa charged with the larceny of a pair of boots, value 10s, the property of some person unknown. — Sergeant Pratt said the police had made inquiries, but were unable to discover the owner of the boots. He would ask that the prisoner be discharged.—Accused was accordingly discharged. All that Glitters.—Fred Frouien was charged with imposing on Michael Tobin by saying a certain chain was 18 carat gold when, in fact, it was brass, and did thereby obtain the sum of 20s.—Sergeant Pratt asked for a remand until to morrow. He had no witnesses present, because it was understood that only Bolton's case should be taken to-day.—Remand granted. A Local Chadband. -Albert Chadband was charged with maliciously breaking a pane of glass, value 15s, the property of Isaac Harrison. — Prisoner pleaded not guilty.—The evidence for the prosecution was to tho effect that defendant was refused liquor in the Anchor Hotel on Saturday night. He made uee of bad language, and had to be put out. A minute or two afterwards he returned, and put his hand through the glass in the door. The defence was that in putting him out the landlord pushed the door against him, and thus broke the glass.—His Worship said it was necessary that landlords should be protected from such conduct as this, and sentenced the prisoner to 14 days' imprisonment with hard labour.
Madame Pooley has been prevailed upon to form another vocal class, and by advertisement elsewhere it will be seen that the first meeting takes place on Monday next at 7 30, at the spacious chambers in Milne and Choyce's buildings. Madame Pooley's reputation as a teacher and a finished vocalist will ensure intending members a thorough and conscientious course of instruction.
