SOIREE AT PAPAKURA.
The annual soiree and general meeting of tho Papakura charge was hold in the church on the 22nd April, and was a great success. Tea and other good things wore kindly and liberally provided by Mesdames McLennan, Norrie, Willis, and Walters. The Rev. T. Norrie presided, and opened the meeting with prayer. He also gave a brief review of his work for the past 80 yearsj when the charge was established, and referred to the past year especially as one of abundant labours, having had to preach every fortnight five times one Sabbath, and ordinarily four times on the other Sab^ bath. Once a quartor ho had preached at Churchill, Ohinemuri, Huntly, and Wairangi, until relieved by the settlement of the Rev. J. S. Boyd at Hamilton. The annual report was read, in which the following summary of church worK for the past year was given. Sixteen stations had been supplied by tho minister with divine service) 3 weekly, 2 fortnightly, 7 monthly, and 4! quarterly. Prayer meotings had been held monthly at Drury and Wairoa, and occasionally at Papakura. Eleven membors had been added to the Communion Roll, and eight of them were communicants for tho first time. Baptism had been administered to 49 children. The minister hud also solemnised 6* marriage?, aod officiated at 7 funerals. Religous instruction had beon imparted in 9 day schools to a gross attendance of 177 scholars. Thore woro 7 Sabbath schools attended by 247 scholars, and taught by _20_ teachers. Eighty-seven suitable periodicals had been circulated monthly in the charge. Tho total amount received for all purposes for the year was £351 Is 7d. The report was adopted, and the office bearers appointed for tho current year. Excellent addresses wero given by the Roys, O, R, Hewlett and J P. Dickeon, the former on " Larrikiniem," and the latter on "Little Things," Tho mooting was also addressed by Messrs S. H. Reid and W. Shanaghan on "Young New Zealand." Various musical selections were well rendored by tho local choir, assisted by friends from Otahuhu and Auckland ; Mr Fallwoll conducting and Miss Fallwell preeiding at the fine American organ. Solos woro sung by Misses Burns and Lundon, and Messrs W. L. Armstrong and Lankham. A duot was sungbyMissesßurnß andFallwell, and readings wore given by Messrs D. Norrio and S. Fallwell. Mr T. J. Cole mos*ed a cordial vote of thanks to the ladies, speakers, singers, etc., which was carried by acclamation, and suitably responded to. At a late hour tbe proceedings of a very pleasant evening woro closod by the Chairman pronouncing the Benediction.—(Correspondent.)
