HAMILTON District High School is to be closed at once, because of the small attendance.
Dr. Hislop bas presented his valuable educational library to Otago Training College. The Board of Education express their thanks for the gift. Dr. Brown and Mr Frasor were nominated for tbe Chairmanship of the Board of Education at Dunedin yesterday. Mr Fraser was re-elected by his own casting vote. j Statistics of standard examinations for 1885 weie laid on the table at the Board of Education this afternoon. These showed that 10,556 had been examined, 7,933 had 2,623 had failed, the percentage of passes being 75.1. During 1885, there were 28 students at Auckland Training College, while the staff was composed of the Principal, assistant, second assistant, and (for six months) a teacher of sewing for female students. The expenditure had been £2,160, of which £912 was for salaries, and £1,096 13s 4d maintenance of students. A report containing these and other particulars was received by the Board of Education this afternoon.
