Anyone killing a cat on lands infested by rabbits is liablo to a penalty of from £5 to £20. Cats are found to keep the rabbits from multiplying. Messrs Watt and Henderson, who recently arrived from Scotland for tho purpose of starting the fish-curing industry on a large scale in New Zealand, had an interview with Sir Julius Vogel on Friday, April 16, relative to the project, and it is understood that the Colonial Treasurer promised that the Government would render them whatever assistance it could. Messrs Watt and Henderson have had considerable experience in the business, and are possessed of capital. They have brought out with them four deep-sea fishers. The locality where operations will be started has not yet been decided upon.
