Property Tax Valuation Court.

Yesterday Afternoon (Concluded). (Bfore Messrs R. W. Moody, E. W. Alison, and Thos. Leigh, Board of Reviewera ; Mr J, B. Stoney, Clerk. The following business wos disposed of after we went to press yesterday afternoon :— Waiteniata County. Tho Property Tax Assessment Court for this county waa opened in the R.M. Court room at 2 p.m. yesterday, Mr G. M. Crombio (Deputy Commissioner) as usual conducting tho business, and Mr Thos. Seaman (Valuer) being presont to give evidence when required. The following business was gone through, valuations being susained in casea of non-appearance :— Ararimu Road District. The following objectors were first called, but failed to appear : Andrew Dignan, Patrick Dignan, John Jan.es, Thos, H. Mabin, Owen and Dowar, and John Slattor. —3,752 acres, near Helensville, valued at £5,200, Mr F. L, Prime appeared for tho objector, and urged tho Government to purchase the property unless it were reduced in value to £4,065, for which it was already under offer. The Valuer stated that he estimated tho value of the timber on tho Ist October at £3,000, or lOd por 100 feet, and the land at 10s per aero, besides 10s per chain for fencing. The timber was constantly being removed by tho contractors. Ho was told by the settlors that his valuation of the timber was a Very low one. Reducod to £5,000 —James Dilworth. 386 acres 1 rood 31 perches, at Taupaki East—valued at £650. Mr S. Vaile appeared for the objector. He estimated the value at £1 per ucre. The valuer said there was kauri on the property, and a considerable amount of other timber. Mr Vaile hat}., sold adjoining property at £2 and £3 por aore, while Mr Dilworth himself had refused £650 for tho proporty. Mr Vaile denied that tho properties he had sold adjoined Mr Dilworth's. Valuation sustained. -Charlos Shepherd-No appearance. Kaukapakapa. The following objectors failed to appear : Jae. Gilbert, Wm. Hamilton, G. S. Jakine, and Ralph Koosing, exocutors of J. Mendelssohn, 789 acres at Makarau, valued originally at £792, but reduced to £-100, or noarly 10a por aero. Mr 11. Ashton, jun , appeared for the objector, and claimed a further reduction of 5s per aero. He hod instructions to sell at this prico i Reduced to £350.—Charles T. Outhwaito : Reduced by consent from £300 to £100 — Sobt. Russell, Robt. Sinclair, and W. St Clair Tiedall-No appearance.— C. Wallace, 108 acres at Makarau, valued at £84. — The objector said the land was worthless, and ho had valued it ot £30. The valuer said that two adjoining sections had been sold at 10a per acre. Reduced by consent to £42 or 5s per aero. Maraotai. H. Allright.—No appearance. Goo. Ferrall.—No appearance. F, D. Fenton.— Roduced by consent from £3,250 to £3,000, Geo. W. Roduced by consent to .€778.— Arthur D. Sheffield, U. Holdship, Susan McCaul, ami Frederick Rinj;, no appearand). Birkenhead. Tho following objectors failed to appear:— James Barnes, Joseph Berry, Alfred C. Brown, Goorgo Crickson, John Dickins, W. C. Daldy, George Fraser, P. Heath, Mary Forehain, Ja(nea Leslio. — Peter Oliphant—229 acres, valued at £570, and 136 acres, valued at £410. The objector considered the land to bo worth only £2 per aero, although he paid £3 per aero for it. He was suffering from the land fever at the time. Tho Valuor said that land close by had sold at £10, £12, and £15 per acre. Koduced, by concent, to £2 per ocre, or in othor words to £458, and £27-', respectively. —H. W, Simes, F. A. White, and Joseph Williams—No appearance. Devonport, Alexander Alison, ten., Alexander Alison, jun., and Emma Alison-No appearance. — Bobort Bartley — Valued at £570. Valuation sustained after ovidenco had boen hoard. — Goorge Browne, David Bruco, George R. Burnett, Catherine Baird, and James Davis: No appearance—J. Dilworth, valued at £375. The valuer said ho had valued at £7 10a por foot, whereas other sections had been sold at £9 per foot. It adjoined the Calliope Dock. Valuation sustained —Tho following objectors failed to appear :— Jane Durie, John Finlay, Thos. J. Harbutt, Annie Holmos, Jas, Leslie, Bernhardt Levy, John l_ilow_.ll, Robt. Logan, Thos. Melville, John Milne, Richard Moore, Edward Price, W, H. Shakespoar, J. L, Seccombo, Caleb Wood, Isabella Armstrong, John Biddlo, Goo. Holdship, M. O. Lee, Shepherd's executors, and Jesaio McLaren. T. F. S. Tinne,— Vailo and Douglas objected to the valuation, but it was sustained. — Mary MoEwon -Owner's interest valued at £310, and tenant's interest at £261. Mr Tanner appeared for tho objector (Mary McEwon), and as a mistake had been made, tlio valuations woro reversed, viz., £264 for owner's interest, and £346 for tenant's Interest.

Pukoatua. All the objectors failed to appear, viz., John F. Boylan, John Dunn, R. W. Ellis, M. M. Tait (por E. T. Dufaur), John F. Highway, Elizabeth Ireland, Charles Shepherd, and Loslie Victors. Wainui. Enos Bond, throo acres valued at £70.— ' The objector considered £10 per acre ample. He admitted that ho had paid £50 for the proporty.—Mr Crom bio drow attention to the fact that Enos Bond, Evan Bond, and Thomas Bond in their form of objection had imputed improper motives to Mr Seaman, asserting as they did that ho was inspired by animus against them, and actuated by a desire to make a high valuation in order to get a higher commission for collecting ratos, If he wero Mr Seaman, ho would institute legal proceedings.—After the objection had been heard at some length Mr Soaman asked him if he would tako £30 for tbe proporty.—The objector replied that if tho valuer asked him to soil at that price his answer would be, " May the curse of Ahab fall upon you."— Valuation sustained. Evan Bond. —No appearance. Thomas Bond, 3 acres valued at £10 por acre.—Reduced to £27. J. J. Craig, Waiwera, 80 acres valued at £60. — The valuer said he was willing to sell at £30. — Valuation sustained. Euphemia Jack, CO acres valued at £12?.—Roduced by consent to £100, David Jack, valued at £145. Tho objector was willing to selL for £100.—Reduced to £120, The following objectors did not appear :—C. A. Anderson, Alfred O. Carter, W. F. Cochrane, Charles Shopperd, A. Dowar, Alexander.!. Hatfield, J. R. Ha'(iold, and Walter Stoney. Takapuna Lako Distriot. P6ter Oliphant, !) acree, 3 roods, 2 perches, valued at £80. —The objector said he had bought at £40.—Reduced to £60 by consont. Malcolm Taylor, 14 acres, 10 perches, valued at £350.—Mr R. Cameron appeared for tho objector. He thought £300 ample value. Mr Taylor was willing to- sell for £280.-Reduced to £325. The following objectors did not appear: -James Dilworth, John W. James, James Hill, Frederick S. Potter, Wm Robinson, Antonio Raffalle, W, H. Shakespeare, Sheehan's executors. Nortbcotc. All the objectors failed to appear, viz. : - John Angus, William Bacon, Isabella Brassey, R. G. Haines, W. H. Hardy, Alfd. £halders, E. F. Tole, J. G. Denby, Thomas C ran well. Wattakoroi. Jas. Dilworth.—l,s73 acres, valued at £3,500, and 100 acres valued at £1,500.—Mr S. Vaile appeared for the objector, and objected to these separate valuations, as tho J,573 acres and the 100 acres both belonged to tho one estate. He valued the whole estate at £2,223. The best of it was not worth more than £2 10s per acre.—F, (.. Ewington Baid he valued the estate at £2,820, including buildings, 20 acres of orchard were worth £10 per acre. — John McElwain valued the property at £2,ooo—Walter Sisam said that at the outside the property was worth £3,000. The Valuer stated that be divided the estate because Mr Dilworth was wanting to sell the 100 acreswith the improvements, and his price was £2,000. The • orchard was worth £40 per acre, as 3,000 trees had recently been planted. The late Mr Aud re w Dilworth refused £3,000 for half the estate, and after hie death Mr James Dilworth got it for £1,250.—The Board decided to reduce the valuation of the 1,576 acres from "£3,500 to £2,350, and that of the 100 acres from £1,500 to £1,250.
