TRADES.
On March 19, the Bootmakers' Union placed in the hands of the mastorß a statement of wages to be paid throughout the oity•;' also a series of resolutions dealing with thequestion of day labour. We aro informed that these resolutions are on the same lines aa those that have been accepted in the South. Strikes are a deplorable loss to both capital and labour, and we hope that an amicable arrangement will be come to before the week's notice (which is the time that has been given) is up. The Union deolare that the employment of boys has increased to snch un extent here that it haa now become a most vital question with the men. On the other hand, wo are told that the loading manufacturers declare that- the present condition of the trade makes it impossible for them to yield to the demands, and that they are determined to resist.
