Meeting of Liberal Association.
A meeting of the Auckland Liberal Association was held at the Temperance Hall last evening for the purpose of electing officers of the Society. The following were elected:—Mr Fa mail, President; Messrs Duffus, McNaught, Otto, Warburton ; Lepper, Phillips, jun., Neylon, Morris, Mouzer, Grant, and Hodge, Vice-Presi-dents ; Mr P. M. Grant was re-elected Secretary, and Mr Duffus Hon. Treasurer. A resolution by Mr Duffus, " That the city and subuibs bo divided into twelve districts, to bo under tho supervision of the Vice ■ Presidents of the Society," was carried. Tho following resolutions wore carried on the motion of Mr Duffus : - " That the Liberal Association present Sir George Grey with a congratulatory address upon the 14th proximo, the 74th anniversary of his birthday, and that it be signed on behalf of the Association by the President, Secretary, and Treasurer." "That a nominated and irresponsible Upper Houso, composed exclusively of c single cluss, is a relic of tyranny and barbarism which should be forth with abolished, j "That eight hoursshould bu fixed by statuto as the extreme limit of a day's work in this colony in any occupation, and that all places of business, iv which it practicable, should be compelled to cloeoats;x p.m.' "That in order to prevent industrial depression and provide abundance of reproductive work at fair wages for tho unemployed, tho Governwent should annually issuo State Bank notes for a sum equal to half the estimated amount of the taxation voted by Parliamen'. Such notes to be a legal tonder for all debts, duos, and taxes, and to be convertible at pleasure into Government bonds bearing interest."
