StrroEroFCHii.DßEy.—Charles Crawford was charged with failing to provide adequate meansof support forhis four children. Mr Crawford denied the charge. Ho ea'd that in July or August last, His Worship made an order for tho payment of 7b 6d per'week. He had paid this amount regularly, so that it was untrue that he had "wilfully "neglected to provido mean?, He could not pay any more, and it woe agreed that tho children should go into the Home. Tho dofendant procoeded to say that before Mr Buddlo left Auckland the case was settled, and since then it had been brought into Court again without a fresh summons boing issued. — The Clerk of tho Court said that . tbe case waß adjourned aod not nettled, at the time mentioned.—Defendant asked forn remand till Mr Buddie returned, and hie wife objected. Sepljing to the Bench, Crawford Baid there was no prospect of his settling the matter, and added that when tbo original order was made againßt him, ho was only earning four shillings a day in Mr Arthurs emjdoy, and the timewastbedepthof winter. He was frequently compelled to borrow money (rom Mr Arthur so that bo might »ot get into arrears. -Their Worships adjourned the case for a fortnight, and hoped that th. defendant would be able to settle it in the meantime. SerroET or a Mother.—Michael McGuinness did not appear in answor to a charge of neglecting to contiibute towards the support of his mother, Mary Mcwinness.—Mrs McGuinness gave evidenco, Md the case was adjourned for a week in order that the police might make inquiries.
