Opera House-"The Squatter."
A second performance of Mr Darrell's latest Play, "The Squatter," has had the effect of increasing its attractiveness, and the drama as played at the Opera House laßt night is fully entitled to all the praise we have bestowed on it. The acting throughout was admirable, and as a consequence each scene went with a freshness and vigour that rendered the performance exceedingly enjoyable. The sketch given by tbe author of a "sundowner"
.a striking portraiture, strong in local colour, well drawn, bold, and characteristic, as the applause of tho udience testifies. As an effect of stage mechanism the flood scene could cot well be surpassed. It was splendidly worked last night, and secured a round of applause from the audience. "The Squatter" will be ropeated this evening, tomorrow, and Thursday, after which it must be withdrawn in view of other productions already announced. On Friday night the publio will have an opportunity of seeing Mr Darrell's company in Shakespeare, a taßk in which they will, no doubt, not be found wanting. Considerable time has now elapsed since "Hamlet "was performed in Auckland, and lovers of the " legitimate " may expect on Friday night a fine performance of their favourite tragedy. Mr Darrell will appear as the melancholy prince, a part which he has always played with success. On Saturday mght Boucicault _ live-act sensation drama, 1 The Streets of New York," is to be produced.
