Bakers' Turn Out at Cattle Show.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—On visitiDg the Cattle Show last Mon. day, I was much pleased with tho exhibits shown there; among other things the bakers' turn-out, for the best of which a prize of £5 had been offered by Mr Jowett. Being interested in the trade, I oxamined carefully the different carts, and was struck (as I believe were all others) with the raagnificentturnoutexhibited by Mr Grubb, the well-known bakerof Karangahape Road. Judge of my surprise when, returning to town on Saturday, I heard that the prize had been awarded to Mr Corley, and that Mr Grubb bad been disqualified, simply because up to that time the cart had never been used. Now, sir, as the conditions distinctly stated that the prizo would be awarded . for the beet turn-out owned by any baker doing business within three milts of the Pout Office, and 08 Mr Grubb h&B boen ia business for a number of years, and I beliovs it will bo admitted that th-j curt waa sot built r:oiuly for iho purpose of exhibiting at th& Shw, 1 contend that an iujustice has been done not only to Mr tirubb, the owner, but also to Mr Patterson, the builder, the harness-maker, and driver, as, to all intents and purposes, Mr Grubb had strictly complied with the conditions laid down, and the unanimous opinion was that his was the premier exhibit in that lino,—l am, &c, Spectator,
