Captain Cook s Club
Here is a story by Barnum, worth reading.—"When Ifirstopened my grcatinuseum in New York a newspaper reporter called on me, and was duly shown over and duly admired the exhibits, suggesting that the only thing required to" make my show complete was the club with which the natives killed Captain Cook. Now, I had eoveral war clubs in my lumber-room at the time, and seizing the idea, I said that, curiously enough, I had secured the treasuro yesterday, and would show it to him. I hurried up, procured a label, and placed the club in hw hands. He turned it over—he almost shed tears, I thought-and then ho spoko. ' Poor Cook,' ho eaid ; ' poor fellow ! I'm glad you've shown me this : but I expected it. I've been to all the smaller mueoums in the city, and they all had it, co I felt sure that a eigantic establishment liko this would not bo without it.'"
