WE GIVE THEM BACK THE LIE.
Shamo on the men who would destroy The grand old charter of our race. Who every cruel art employ To btand its teaohingß with disgraco! And shame on those who Bland aside While others grapple with the foo. Who watch unmoved tho rising tide Roll on its waves of Bin and woe! 0 brothers! shall tho covert sneer. The bolder blasphemies and lies; The foolish dreams of bard or seer, Destroy the elorlous truthß wo prize? Give back the fearful lie to those Who cherish, yet with filial care, Tho name so dear to freedom's foes, . The bold, blaspheming, vain Voltairo, O mother I for your country's sake. And for tho sake of those you love, Keep back your boya from those whomake A by-word of the God above. To thOBO you cherish still bo true, Thehousehold buds thatround you twine, And Bbie:'i them from the alien crew Who sneer ateverything divine. Guard wo the faith for which our sires So nobly gave their lives away, The faith thattriumph'd o'er tho flros Which Bought i ts onward march to stay; Nor let the truth for which they died, Tho freedom which they held ao dear. By social Vandals thrust aßide Cease to fulfil their mission hero, And thou, whom once I loved so well, The idol of my youthful days, Wilt thou unite with earth and hell Truth's noble battlements to raze? 0 Mansey I talents such as thine, Which hallowed once the scenes you trod, Aiound a nobler cause should shine; Be true to us, and true to God.
