! Mr L. B. F. Cooksey, Chairman of the Matakoho School Committee, sends us a letter in reply to certain statements in the report of the "Weekly News " correspondent relative to an inquiry into certain charges brought by the Chairman against the local teachers. Mr Cooksey says tho resolution exonerating the teacher was not carried unanimously by the Committee, and that tho charges cannot bo settled till tho documents havo been received from tho Board of Education. French Irritation Ovor the Suez Canal. London, .Tune 16. — The failure of the Suez Canal conferenco to arrive at any definite conclusion regarding the control and working ol tho Canal has irritated the Fronch Govornmont. Tho Redistribution of Soats Bill. Tho House of Commons has accepted the amendments which wore introduced by the House of Lords in the Redistribution of Seats Bill.
