FIRE AT PONSONBY.
An alarm of firo was given from tho Ponsonby firobell last night at midnight, and it transpired subsequently that tho back verandah of tho houso in Yarboroughstroet, occupied and owned by Thomas Weleman, had been on firo. Tho cause of tho outbreak was tho placing of some coal Binders in a woodou ash box. They ignited tho wood and got fire to tho verandah, but sovoral buckets of water extinguished tho llamos. Tho damago will bo covered by several pounds. The house was insured for £200 in tho Royal.
