ADDRESS BY MAJOR ATKINSON.
His Views on Immigration,
(by telegraph—press association.)
New Plymouth, this day. Major Atkinson addressed a vory large meeting hero last night. Ho went over much tho same ground as at his previous "meeting, but with referenco to immigration ho said ho regretted the system of nomination of immigrants had been suspended, and thought it a great mistake. Ho was quite prepared to support a vote for that purpose, but doubted whether it would be wise to go any further. He thought that the diroct steamers were a good advertising medium, and if they could bo subsidised so as to got the passage money reduced to about the samo as the passage from England to America, thoy would soon divert tho stream of immigration to this colony. A unanimous vote of confidence was carried.
