Ddnkdin, ihisdny.—Tho " Herald" says, editorially, that tho Government have in contemplation tho establishment of a Government advertising gazette in Wellington. Tho publication is projected for the purposo of doing away with tho necessity of inserting Govornmont announcements in newspapers. It calls on the taxpayers to oppose Buch a schomo, which is indefensible on any grounds. The Govornn-ont should ndvortise more extensively than they do, as questions v°l .ting 'ta land nnd settlement aro boing constantly raised in tho press. To confine Government announcements to ono official organ would put all public business in the hands of a ring. Fatal Fishing Acoidont. At an inquest on John Atkinson, it transpired that decoased was in tho habit of fishing for crayfish at a cave near Lanzer Head. The workmen employed on the batteries had warnod him of tho danger, but ho took no notico, replying that the line round his body was quite strong enough to prevent him from falling into the water. It is surmised he had a fainting fit, to whioh he had beon subject at on,e timo, and fell into the water. lie was missed an hour after being cantionod, and found a mile and a-half away. Deceased was captain of tho City Fire Brigade, and was for nineteen years in tho employ of tho City Corporation.
