An American Tragedy.

Ne_3 has reached a family resident in London of tho murder of a rolativo in the Far West which reads more like a transpontine melodrama than a mere recital of facts. The gentleman in question left England some years ago for the States. Ho had a considerable amount of money, a large portion of which he, after a fashion very prevalent with Englishmen just now, invested in land. When in Kansas he made the acquaintance of the wifo of a local banker. Sho was twenty years old, very handsome, highly educated, and connected with a good family in New York. The Englishman and the banker's wife struck up an acquaintance which quickly ripened into close intimacy. A short time after this stage was reached the banker died— very suddenly, it is said. His affairs being wound up aud the widow coming into his property, she and the Englishman started together fpr Texas, Before they set out the Englishman had made a will leaving to his companion some valuable land in Kansas. After straying beyond the district of railways tho two rode together. When they reached a lonely portion of the Indian territory tho gay and handsomo young widow suddenly turned upon her companion and shot him dead. This accomplished, she leisurely stripped him of all his money and jewels, amounting, it is said, to the value of f1,20p, and with her own hands buried the" body. This was not done with the neatness and completeness of the shootiug. Some men riding over the same truck camo upou tho body. It vas identified, and the coi_puuiou_hip of the Kansas widow being known, sho was arrested, and proofs oi tbe crime found upon ber.
