Daily Life of Emperor William.
The Emperor of Germany was lately indulging in a ten minutes' nap aftor an unusually protracted recoption of military officer*- about to depart to their various destinations in different parts of tho Empire, and his good-humoured annoyance at being " caught napping" furnished subject of merriment to his family for somo time afterwards. His Majesty is very fond of dining in company, but always breakfasts alone, in order to avoid the objootien of talking. His diet is of the most simple kind. There is only one dish forbidden in vain by tho doctorß, but from which he obstinately ref üboß to abstain, in spite of all remonstrance. He must have lobstera, in some shape or other, at least twice a week ; and, although his digestion is in general good, yot those who witness the lobster feasts in which he indulges sometimes tromblo at the sight, and sometimes turn faint with dismay on beholding him start forth immediately after the repaut to drive in his victoria through the park to the Thiergarten. No matter what the weather is.His Majesty may always bo seen enveloped in his warm grey military cloak with its fur collar, with no other escort than tho attendant who caught him in his arms whon ho fainted after tho attempted assassination by Nobiling. Tho solitary drive is always followed by a solitary promonade on foot under tho big trees of the park Thore he sometimes falls in with General Yon Moltko, and they converse together familiarly for some time: but tho Emporor always returns to the Palace alono.
His evenings ore generally devoted to family intercourse, which ho pleasantly calls the " ladies' hour," and his gallant attentions to tho female portion of his household have always formed one groat motive of his popularity. Tho Empress has always tho right of disposing of tho time after dinner. Hor Majesty being a Princess of Woimar, und having passed her youth amid tho literary circles of that exceedingly blue little town in tho day of Gootho and tho minor luminaries of his day, prefers tho i|uict of her own salon and the society of her literary friends to tho theatre. Tho Emporor, having obtained permission to absent himsolf from tho a'sthotic discussions under tho guidanco of Hor Majesty, repairs to the thoatre, whoro he occupies a box, almost always alone, -whilo the Court oflicials in state uniform fill tho Imperial box, standing bohind the I'mperor's empty chair with all due otiquotto. The Emporor then returns homo, takes a cup of woak toa, kissos tho hand of tho Empress, and retires to bed like a simplo bounjeoin of Borlin,
