CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.
The ordinary mooting was held last evening. Present: —Messrs W, Gorrio (in the chair), Hannon, McMaster, Crowther, and Shaldors. A lotter from the Board explained matters with referenco to the halfholiday dispute in terms previously published, which woro considered satisfactory. In response to an application, Mr E. M. C. Harrison was granted one month's leave of absence, owing to serious illness. Mr Hart, Headmaster of Nelson-street School, wrote etatlng that it was necessary to increase his present teaching staff, tho number on the roll boing 530—an increase of 100 since he had taken over tho management. Consideration of this matter was postponed. Mr Thwaites wrote complaining that his salary for the past quarter was at tho rato of £25 per annum below that allowed by the rules and regulations of the Board, and asked that the Committee would inquire re the matter. It was agreed to forward Mr Thwaites's letter to the Board, with favourable recommendation. Tho Secretary of the Newton Schools Committee wrote inquiring what was the scale of fees (extras) in the city schools. It was agreed to lequest head-masters in the city schools to furnish the required information. A circular was received from the Board suggesting a conference of the Committee and head teachers, to revise rules and regulations, and forward suggestions to the Board. Consideration was postponed for a fortnight. This was all the business.
