Cambridge, this day.—The case against Lauderdale Canachan for alleged horse stealing was heard to-day, and dismissed! The Bench considered there was no case at all. It was a most vexatious affair that the son of a respectable settler should be brought forward in such a manner when there was nothing whatever to support the charge. Accused left the Court without a blemish on his character.
The insurance companies are refusing to renew all policies in Duke-street here. One store has been insured for twelve years in one office for £5«0, but the application for renewal was refused. The residents are now organising a fire brigade,
