THE TRAINING COLLEGE.
Principal McAbthub's report upon the Training College for 188. was submitted to tho Board of Education yesterday. It stated inter alia that at the beginning of the year there were 10 male and 23 female students, while at the end the numbers were -9. males and 22 females. During the year the students bad secured three ol the four University College scholarships. Six students passed the annual examination of the University College, and two of them gained a first-class certificate both in Latin and English. At the Matriculation examination in December, 9 passed out of 11 who entered, and 1 passed the Srst section of the B.A. degree. 21 students had gone forth from the College during the year as trained teachers. In this connection Mr McArthur thought that sreat care should be taken to admit to the ollege only Buoh as were physically capable of undertaking the teaching work, and he suggested that in future the Principal should be associated with those who , have the selection of candidates for admission. In conclusion he regretted the rather small proportion of males among the pupil teachers.
