SERIOUS MINING ACCIDENT.
A serious mining accident occurred on November 22 in the Canadian Low Level Co.'s workings, Thames, resulting in tho severe injury of three miners, namod Samuel Howard, Alfred James, and NicholasPearce, The men . had charged three holes with blasting powdor, which they proceeded to explode by " spitting " the fuse, or igniting the powder in the notch at its end. One of the charges exploded instantaneously, throwing tho three unfortunates down in the drive, but the earth displaced by the other two shots fortunately washed over their prostrate bodies. James and Howard were burned badly, but luckily their eyes escaped injury. Howard suffered most seriously, hss thumb and tho index finger of his left hand boing shattered to such an extent as to necessitate amputation. Pearce escaped with severo contusions.
