THE MAGNETIC HEALER AND THE MEDICAL FACULTY.

Another public exhibition of "magnetic healing " was given by Mr Milner Stephen in St. James's Hall last evening. Dr.s. Wine '. and Murray Moore were present, and the latter took some part in the proceedings. Mrs Hervid camo forward and tcstilied to her recovery, and indicated a neighbour then present in the hall who could corroborate her. Mr Hammond asked that the names of the doctors that had attended her should be given. Mr Stephen objected, saying that he had given offence to tho doctors in Dunedin by giving names publicly. Dr. Moore thought there would .be no objection to them being given, and stated that ho had come forward to ascertain the facts. He had been asking questions of Mrs llorvid, but could ascertain nothing to indicate that her. case was One of cancer. Mrs Hervid, after, another protest on My Stephen's part, gave tho names of Drs. Richardson, Hooper, Wine, Philson, and others, who had pronounced her caso cancer. MrStephcnsaidthatMrsllervidlmd seen throe portions of the cancer come away. Miss Hyllon'ri case was then alluded to as ono of boueCcial treatment, and this was corroborated by Mr W. D. Campbell, O.K. Mr Taylor, of Vincent-street, and others testified to great improvement under Mr Stephen's treatment. Mr John Jackson, whose son had been treated on tho 14th November, coniplained that his son's leg had not been lengthened. Mr Stephen said that ho could never bo certain of coring. After Romo altercation, he declined to treat him again gratuitously,: einco the father had shown he was in a position to pay. Mr W. D. Campbell then said that it had como to his personal knowledge that Mr Stephen had given sums of money to poor patients in addition to free "treatment. (Applause.) Mrs Wilson, recommended by Rev. Maeuieol, stated Jhat. she bad had heart disease for ,"0 years, and was suffering ffo'm asthma, and that shoifelt relieved ' amffreatmoht. Dr. Moore "the* t3olOTis* n^ide, and after sounding her, stated that she had not asthma nor honrt disease, but only enlargement of tho heart. Mirs Wilson then said she had been treated for about two months by Dr. Huxtablo. Eliza Cornish, recommended by Rev. Keating, who had a short log and hip'diseaso, was next treated. Mr Hammond called for names of doctors, and for the boots to be removed, and tho father gave the name of Drs. Haines and Philson, and said that tho leg was fully 1J inches' short with tho boot on. Mr Stonhcn protested against the repeated interference of Mr Hammond. After treatment, tho girl appeared to bo able to place her two boots evenly on the platform. Three.gentlemen then examined her, and ■' had her boots removed, but said that they could not say whether her leg had been lengthened. Tho father seemed to think some alteration had been made. Mr Hammond interrupted again, and Mr Stephen complained of the disturbance caused by him, and repeated his invocation to calm his feelings. A number of other persons were treated, with varying results. In the case of an.elderly man, Mr Stephen declined to treat him, as he detected the odour of spirituous liquor. The attendance at this "healing" was not so largo as on previous occasions.

To tho Editor : Sir, —I desire to contradict the statement of Mrs Wilson made last night at Mr Milncr Stephen's meeting, viz., that I.had been treating her for months for. heart disease. For three weeks she took medicine prescribed by me, and when last I saw her, sho stated she was very much improved. I did not call the doranged action of her heart by the name of heart disease.— Yoiirs, etc., C. U. Huxtable, M.D.
