Messrs Trent Brothers, of Christchureh, answer with a report of the Canterbury Analy Ist, which, after being translated into plain English, acts very damaging to them, being an acknowledgment ot adulteration. But thats not't'our .business; we simply object to- their adulterated pepper coming to our market, as an unfair competition against our genuine article. This having been the cose, the attached copy o the analysis of their pepper in Auckland will prove:*- ; "Laboratory, Hobson-street, '" Auckland, June 11,1881. I visited their manufactory, and selected indiscriminately two samples of Coffee. Both_amp.es wero very well prepared, and of excellent Quality. A chomical and microscopical examination proved them to be quite free from any deleterious adulteration, and containing no other ingredients than Coffee, with a small admixture of Chicory, '■„,■'„_. _. "Having selected indiscriminately Bamples of White and Black Pepper, and having examined them both microscopically and chemically, I find them exceedingly good samples, very well prepared, and quite free from injurious constituents. The mioroscopical examination, compared with that of genuine Pepper, scarcely ihoivs any difference iv tho farinaceous sub.taucea. proving that they must be very free from any foreign admixture.
