Pranks of a German Count.
A GERMAN Count has been playing pranks £ Dublin. It appears that he fell in love with the daughter of a lodging-house keeper, and proposed to marry her Ilie wary mother was not, however, dazzled by his aristocracy. She wanted proofs of his position and a settlement for her child. He said he would settle £5,000 on Miss Inglis, and spend £1,000 on the honeymoon. Despite this projected liberality, he would not say who ho was or where he came Irom, explaining that the secrecy was necessary, as he was about to marry out of his own rank. Had Mrs Inglis beon a woman of imagination, she would havethought that all the count's ancestors would start out of their portraitsin the family schloss, margraves and landwavesofpastcenturies, and would start for Dublin at once to forbid tho banns. But we are a nation of shopkeepers. Mrs Inglis wanted positive evidence that her daughter's suitor was not a vagabond. Unfortunately, this was precisely what the Count could not give, so he summoned Miss Inglis to his room, and tried to shoot her. Failing :.: in this, he shot himself. His end was as trasric as that of Werther, who killed him- ■ self to the low of Charlotte. We dare say that Miss Inglis will continue to bestow maidenly courtesies on her mother s lodgers, i Respite the melancholy end of her mys ' Linus Count. But there Will be exultation T^W* the family portraits in the distant an \§ Better a German Count should sehu v# avdly his name by an alliance wit& die th. .fc&piiße 6*'B daughter I
