ARRIVAL OF THE LAIRA.
The barque Laira, owned by Messrs Stone Bros., of Auckland, under charter to Shaw SAvillo and Co., and in charge of Captain Thow, arrived from London this morning, after a fine
passage of M days. Having explosives on board the Laira anchored at the powder ground, whore she will remain until Monday. Powder win then be put out and she will be berthed ou . "Tuesday. Tho first mate of the vessel is Mr Macarthur, and Mr G. Roberts is second mato. : Of the passage Captain Thow reports:—Lefi Gravesend at 3 p.m. on April 9, and towed to tho Downs. Ha* light winds from E. and N. tHI clearing the Channel. On the 13th passed Madoira, and on the Silat got the N.K. trades in 28' North. They wore lost in 4- N. Crossed th« Equator on May li in '.'5- W. Had bad S.K I trades which were lost in 81' S., passed Tristan : D'Aounba on May 25th, and tho Prlmo Meridian on the 27th. The Cape was passed on June 4th [ in IV 8. Here had a severe gale, during which barque was hove to for 21 horn's. Tho main topGail was blown away, and a heavy sea wus | shipped which split the long boat^nd did other damage. Ran the casting down between 43 and 44 with fresh breezes and high sea. i Passed Tasmania on Jnly 2, sighted Capo Maria on July 10, and from thenco till arrival had resh breezes. Passengers :—Mre, Miss and Master Itadcmaker.
