An accident of a most serious naturo happened yesterday afternoon at the block of four-story buildings which are being erected for Mr Goorgo Holdsiiip in tho thoroughfare leading from JTort to Customsstreet. It appears that a man named James Crotty, who residoH in Vietoriastreot, was working on tho roof of tho structure, when ho essayed to lift somo timber, and in doing so lost his footing. His face struck, tho woodwork of the third story in tho descent. Fortunately, ho managed to catch hold of a beam on tho second story, and hold on thero until he was rescued from his perilous position by Mr Anderson, tho foreman, and some of his comrades. iJr. Tennent, who was called to attend on him, found that his nose was broken, that the skin had been torn oil' his arm from tho elbow to tho wrist, and that several serious abrasions on the body had been caused. The injuries were dressed by Dr. Torment, and the man was taken to his home in Victoria-street.
