VOLUNTEER NEWS.
A match between the City Guavds and Artillery Companies took place on Saturday at the Rifle Range, Mount Eden. The match arose out of a challenge given by Captain Payne, and Captain Isaacs, on behalf of the City Guards (which is considered by a great many to be the best shooting company in the province) quickly arranged particulars for the match on behalf of his men. The ranges were 200, 300, and 500 yards, seven shots eacli range. Lieutenants Norrie and Osborne were in command of the range. After a somewhat exciting finish, the result was found to be in favour of the City Guards, who won by seventeen points. Good feeling prevailed all through the match, mutual cheors being given by the victors and the vanquished. It is probable another match will take place. Tho following are the soores :—
