PARNELL BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Council met last evening, His Worship the Mayor (Capt. D.H.McKenzie) presiding, Mr Winks was elected the Council's representative at the Harbour Board, vice the ex-Mayor. A circular was read from the Town Clerk of Dunedin asking the co-opera-tion of the Council in a movement to urge on the Government the introduction of legislation making fire brigades a joint charge on municipalities, insurance companies, and the consolidated revenue. Referred to Fire Brigade Committeei— The Fire Brigade Committee recommended advertising for volunteers for the Fire Brigade. This was agreed to, and a set of rules for the guidance of the Brigade was discussed and assented to. —It •was decided to erect a firebell near the lawn tennis court, Manukau Road.—A case of typhoid fever in St. Stephen's Place was reported.—The contractor for the waterworks wrote, offering the surplus waterworks plant to the Council at schedule prices. The Council decided that it could only take a portion of the plant.—lt was decided to kerb and channel the cartway leading Into Mr Macintyre's premises, Brighton Road, the applicant to pay half the cost.—A letter from the drainage contractor re the recovery of accounts for work done was referred to the vVorks Committee. This was all the business.
