Thames, this day.—The Thames Borough Council has decided to apply to Government for assistance towards the repair of the damage caused by the flood of last week, estimating the sum required at £1,200. A fresh complication has now occurred regarding the Hikutaia timber dispute. In formations have been laid by the representatives of the Sash and Door Company against four of Blair's men for forcible entfy, and warrants have been issued for theft apprehension.

Forcible Ejectment at Hikutaia.

Thames, this day.—Four men, named John Alley, James Reid, Andrew Gibb, and William Gibb, surrendered themselves to the police this morning. They were brought before Mr Ehrenfried, J.P., on tho charge of forcibly expelling Wf.lter Birch and others from a tenement at Hikutaia on the 26th ultimo. Mr Miller appeared for the prosecution, and Mr Lush for the defence. By consent of both sides, the defendants were remanded until Friday nextj bail being accepted:

St. Patrick's College,

Wellington, this day.—Great preparations are being made for the ceremony of laying tho foundation stone of St. Patrick's College on Sunday nest. Bishops Mown and Luck have already arrived to assist Bishop Redwood, and a large number of Roman Catholic clergymen from different parts of tho colony will bo present. The now building will be a magnificent one, and will afford accommodation for seven professors and 150 students. It is designed by Mr T. Turnball, of this city. ■

Two Men Drownod at Sea.

Captain Oliver, of the Koranui,. from Westport, report* that at 9.30 yesterday morning, when off Farewell Spit, threes of the crew—Fred Ahlgren- (an apprentice), James Moir Wright (A.B. and a brother of tho second officer), and a Swedish, sailor were engaged cleaning out the side of the lifeboat, standing on a gangway rigged up for the purpose, when one of the ropes broke, tilting tho gangway up, and the men were precipitated into the eea. Tho boat was lowered, and lifebelts thrown, and the steamer put astern, but before the boat reached them, Ahlgren and Wright had disappeared. The Swede managed to float till rescued. Ho said both men had clutched him.

Ciißistchukch, this day.— Mr E. Ford states he has discovered a copper lode 113 ft. thick near the White Cliff Railway Station, Malvern district. The copper was exposed by a landslip. A commission agent te reported to havo levanted from Christchurch.

It is understood that Mr Isaac Wilson, M.H.R. for Kaiapoi, will resign his seat this month, and it is reported that Sir W. Fox will bo asked to become a candidate.

Ross, this day.—Mr Fitzgerald, M.H.R., addressed a large meeting of his constituents last night. He was cordially received, and a vote of confidence passed.
